Advanced Trauma Informed Practitioner Certification – A deeper look into trauma and mindfulness

CPD

A Deeper Look Into Trauma, Somatics & Mindfulness

Part Two is a rich and immersive CPD training day for practitioners who want to deepen their confidence and skill in working with trauma, mindfulness and the nervous system. This advanced training builds on trauma informed principles and takes you further into body-based approaches, helping you support participants who may struggle with overwhelm, dissociation, anxiety, shutdown or hyperarousal during mindfulness practice.

Many mindfulness tools are powerful — but for trauma-affected nervous systems, “going inward” can sometimes feel too much, too soon. This training day offers you clear frameworks and practical interventions to help widen the “Window of Tolerance”, so mindfulness practice becomes more stabilising, grounded and truly supportive. You will explore how to work with mindful awareness while remaining guided by safety, choice, pacing, and nervous system regulation.

We introduce and explore key trauma therapy perspectives including Somatic Experiencing (SE), and connect these approaches with somatic mindful movement and trauma sensitive ways of working with the body. You’ll also learn about polyvagal theory and other essential concepts that help explain why some clients become activated, frozen or emotionally flooded — and how we can skillfully respond in the moment.

Part Two is ideal for practitioners who want to expand their trauma-informed toolkit and feel more equipped to work with trauma responses in a grounded, ethical and stabilising way. You’ll leave with practical methods, clearer language, and increased confidence in how to support regulation, resilience and reconnection through mindfulness — without pushing, forcing or overwhelming the system.

Although Part Two is the “advanced” day, it can still be attended as a standalone CPD course, and you are welcome to complete Part Two before Part One if that suits your training journey.

This training is delivered by experienced trauma informed practitioners and mindfulness teacher trainers Rachel McKenna and Madeleine Agnew, and is based on the lived and clinical experience of Mindfulness Now course creator Nick Cooke, who recognised early on the vital need for mindfulness teaching to be trauma sensitive, ethical and safe.
