What is the Mindfulness Now Programme?
Meeting people where they are.
What is the Mindfulness Now Programme?
The Mindfulness Now Programme is more than a single mindfulness course or fixed programme. It is a compassionate, adaptable, person-centred approach to mindfulness that is grounded in the principle of meeting people where they are.
This philosophy runs through everything Mindfulness Now offers and stands for.
At its heart, Mindfulness Now recognises that every person is unique. People come to mindfulness with different life experiences, needs, challenges, abilities, and goals. Rather than expecting individuals to fit into one rigid programme structure, Mindfulness Now teachers are encouraged to adapt their teaching in ways that support the wellbeing, safety, and individual needs of those they work with.
An Adaptable and Inclusive Approach
Mindfulness Now teachers may offer adapted versions of the traditional 8-session mindfulness programme where appropriate. Adaptations may be made to support accessibility, emotional safety, trauma sensitivity, learning styles, physical needs, or the specific circumstances of a group or individual.
Teachers are also encouraged to work one-to-one with individuals when this may provide a safer, more supportive, or more effective learning environment. For some people, individual support can help them feel more comfortable, more heard, and more able to engage in the mindfulness process at their own pace.
Alongside formal mindfulness programmes, Mindfulness Now teachers may also offer ongoing mindfulness support groups. These groups are often shorter and may run weekly or monthly, providing continued guidance, connection, and support for people on their mindfulness journey.
These more informal groups can be especially valuable for individuals who:
- may not feel ready for a formal mindfulness-based programme (MBP)
- prefer a gentler or ongoing approach
- benefit from community and continued support
- are seeking a more accessible or cost-effective way to engage with mindfulness
More Than One Programme
Mindfulness Now is less about delivering one particular programme in one particular way, and much more about finding skillful and compassionate ways to reach as many people as possible.
The focus is on helping individuals develop mindfulness in ways that genuinely support them, while attending carefully to emotional safety, inclusion, and wellbeing.
Whether this takes place through:
- a formal 8-week programme
- an adapted programme
- one-to-one support
- ongoing support groups
- informal drop-in sessions
…the intention remains the same: to provide a safe, compassionate, trauma-informed space where people can explore mindfulness in ways that feel supportive and sustainable for them.
Trauma-Informed and Compassionate Teaching
Mindfulness Now teachers are trained in trauma-informed practice and inclusive communication. They are expected to bring these principles into all aspects of their teaching.
A key part of this approach is the use of the NIA Language Model, which stands for:
- Non-directive
- Invitational
- Adaptive
This style of language encourages choice, autonomy, self-awareness, and self-compassion. Rather than telling people what they should experience, teachers invite participants to explore their own experience in ways that feel safe and manageable for them.
The intention is to help people reconnect with their own voice, needs, and inner wisdom throughout their mindfulness journey.
Meeting People Where They Are
Above all, Mindfulness Now is about meeting people where they are.
It is an approach that values compassion over perfection, flexibility over rigidity, and human connection over one-size-fits-all teaching.
By creating safe, inclusive, and adaptable learning environments, Mindfulness Now aims to make mindfulness accessible to as many people as possible while honouring the uniqueness of every individual journey.
