Trauma Informed Practitioner Certification – Part One

CPD

Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness for Teachers, Therapists & Healthcare Professionals

This powerful and practical CPD training day is designed for mindfulness teachers, talking therapists, yoga teachers, and anyone supporting others in a caring, therapeutic or health-related role. Whether you’re already teaching mindfulness or you’re looking to bring mindfulness into your sessions more safely, this course offers essential foundations for understanding trauma and delivering mindfulness in a way that supports healing rather than unintentionally creating distress.

Trauma is far more common than many people realise, and as practitioners we may be working with participants who carry trauma histories — even if they never name it. This training explores how trauma can affect the mind, body and nervous system, and how mindful practices can sometimes feel unsafe or overwhelming when not taught with sensitivity. The overall aim of Part One is to leave you feeling confident, resourced and clear about how to reduce the risk of re-traumatisation while still offering mindfulness in a way that is accessible, compassionate and empowering.

You’ll learn how to recognise signs of trauma responses in practice, how to guide mindfulness in a way that respects individual choice and agency, and how to develop a safer and more inclusive approach for your clients or groups. We explore practical trauma sensitive language, the “NIA” approach, the optimal zone of arousal, working skilfully with the nervous system, creating trauma “shields”, and creative ways to increase a sense of safety and stability in mindfulness sessions.

Part One is the first day of a two-part course, but can also be attended as a standalone CPD day — with no obligation to attend Part Two. You’re also welcome to attend Part Two first if that works best for your schedule.

This training is delivered by experienced trauma informed practitioners and mindfulness teacher trainers Rachel McKenna and Madeleine Agnew, and is based on the lived and clinical experience of Mindfulness Now course creator Nick Cooke, who recognised early on the vital need for mindfulness teaching to be trauma sensitive, ethical and safe.

This day is part one of a two part training course. You are also welcome to attend part two first, if that works better for you.
